Buried Treasure

Okay! So I went out this morning at about 5:30am, picked up breakfast and went to check out some yard sales. I am redecorating the apartment to give it more of an "Alena" feel. Granted my apartment wasn't so bad before, I just want to get creative and give it more of a calming/vintage/enchanted touch. I can't exactly explain what look I am going for because I am so bad with explanations, however, perhaps you shall journey on with me in this adventure of treasure hunting, crafting and refurbishing.

Some of you wanted to see what I came home with today, and let me just say...I LOVE what I found!

I spent less than $100 for all these goodies!!!

These are a few of the frames I bought, before sanding and painting.

A few frames after the sanding/painting

an adorable little shelf for my figurines...and $2!!!!

The cabinet will be repainted. It's a dark green right now. This piece was $35. It has a cabinet on the bottom with 2 shelves.

This piece was soooo heavy. The mirror is just gorgeous. This too will get refurbished. It's probably about 3.5-4 feet tall...$20

This too was $20 and is a gem. I do not plan to do anything to this one except hang it...

the carvings are too beautiful to ruin!!!

There is much more work to be done, but I should have some of it taken care of by tomorrow, so be sure to come back and check it out! Yard sales really are amazing...like they say "early bird gets the worm". So what are you waiting for?

A Place of Creation

So I came across this article, and being an artist myself, I felt such a connection. I love looking at workspaces of other people...it really shows a part of their individuality. It also helped that Jane Austen made the list. What does your space look like?

40 Facial Expressions

So the other day I got tagged, and created this video....which brings out my epic nerdiness.

Hopefully you find it somewhat entertaining.  :D

On another note what have I been doing lately? Well....FFX actually.
I have been playing so much final fantasy it's ridiculous. Haha, I love it.
On another note, I hate hate hate the cloister of trials. Nothing wants me to walk away from a game more than the cloisters. I approached  the one with the maze and just said I'd get back to it.

I also went back to the asian store and bought a few more things including a Calpis type drink...off brand calpis? It's still a yogurt drink and it's good. I still think I like the aloe drink I bought there a lot more.

So what's in store for today? I'm heading to Nashville to see some friends, and playing Singstar with them.
Oh and I can't forget the bookstores. I have to get my fill at McKay's ^.^ I can't wait!

Whaaaaaaaa First post! ^.^

So today I was sitting around thinking to myself. I decided I want to share my life with anyone who would like to take part. I have had this account for a while now, but never managed to do anything with it.

Ta-da!
I want to dedicate this to my enjoyment of life. You'll get to engage in my laughs, cries, and everything in between.

I also want to take t he time to share some of my creativity with you all. Yes, this means makeup, painting, photography, books, ummm oh and my nerdiness :D
If there's anything you want to know or see, tell me! I'll do my best to entertain haha.

So today I will start out with what I've accomplished earlier.
I went to Happy Japan. This place is just full of cuteness!
They had the cutest Totoro things! If you didn't know already I LOVE LOVE LOVE Totoro.

After I pried myself away, I went to the farmer's market. There I found the cutest little ring!I also ended up with 4 gallons of corn haha. I can't tell you how much I love corn with salt and butter.

I also had a watermelon icee with creme.

Next was Sonobana Japanese Grocery Store. There I got my favourite Kewpie mayo, takoyaki, ume, matcha, and come croquettes.

Mmmmmm oishii! My mouth waters thinking about it.

After I left, I then went to K&S World Market where I bought my favourite Meiji Karl cheese puffs, duck, oden mix, bonito, nikuman, masago, daikon, aloe drink and some other things. I was so happy! I love food nom nom! I will say they have a great selection of meats and seafood. All the fish were still alive in the tanks! They carried duck, which I have been looking for. They also carried duck heads which almost made me sick looking at. I am talking eye sockets beak and all. YUCK! -.-

Finally when I got home I decided to make matcha pound cake. The recipe was fairly simple. I may have to make a post on just how to make matcha pound cake! I didn't make enough mix, so the loaf turned out a little flat, so next time I'll just have to make double the mix. The cake tastes soooo good though. I'll be making this a lot more often.

I also plan on making chawanmushi tonight. It's a Japanese custard type dish. I forgot all about it until recently. I haven't eaten any since I moved from Japan. I hope it turns out okay! Anyway the rest of the night is going to involve cooking and the Harry Potter weekend on tv. Jaa ne!
